“Filling the void left while Bombay Bicycle Club put together a fourth album, Model Aeroplanes work that brand of indie that anchors pop sensibilities in tight guitar and drum lines and throws in some pretty vocal harmonies to boot.” Line Of Best Fit
Since forming in January 2013, Model Aeroplanes secured a slot on the prestigious BBC Introducing Stage at Scotland’s T in the Park music festival that same year, where they received one of the biggest crowds for that stage over the weekend. The band have previously been invited to perform with The Editors at their sold out show at The Edinburgh Picture House and with The View at a sold out home town show in Dundee. Model Aeroplanes have since been offered a slot, and performed at, the BBC Introducing Stage during Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Glasgow.
Since, the boys have packed out tents at T in the Park 2014, Barn on the Farm and Belladrum along with a performance on the Main Stage of Wickerman Festival, as well as having performed for a live session on BBC Radio Scotland.
Model Aeroplanes also gained an invitation to perform at the Dr. Marten’s “Stand For Something” tour, where they played to a sold out crowd at the o2 ABC 2 in Glasgow alongside Dry The River. Subsequent to this the band were recently performing at events such as Liverpool SoundCity and Stag and Dagger Festival.
Following these dates, the four boys were invited to join Twin Atlantic on a three day tour of Scotland, where they won over crowds in Inverness, Edinburgh and their hometown of Dundee. Along with this, the four boys have performed at ASCAP and Communion showcase’s in London, being noticed by several major record label scouts and publishers.
Model Aeroplanes have released three successful singles so far – their first single, Crazy, reached over 10,000 plays before its release date due to its features on many international internet blogs such as Clash, featured as track of the month; When The Gramophone Rings; This is Fake DIY and Indie Shuffle as well as the track’s several national and regional radio airplays on the likes of Radio 1, as well as being featured on Hype Machine.
The single received plays in public shops such as River Island and on the international retail distributor ASOS on most of their catwalk videos, as well as being synced on Sky Sports with Soccer AM.
The band’s second single, Innocent Love, secured several national radio plays on BBC Radio 1 and several regional radio plays also.
After working with a Scottish label, Model Aeroplanes have recently released their most recent single Electricity, which has since had air time on Radio 1 with BBC Introducing and Huw Stephens as well as being voted the most popular track on the Radio 1 Review Show with Edith Bowman. The video for Electricity was released during this time, which received 10,000 views in 3 days. The single was also synced with an episode of the national E4 show “Made In Chelsea”.
With numerous English dates and a four date Scottish tour with Fatherson coming up – the lads have plenty more opportunity to continue winning over new fans and building their rapidly increasing fan base.
